Presentation of DESTINATION ITALY 5 June 2015, UCL

Dear all,
please join us at UCL on Friday 5 June for the presentation of Destination Italy: Representing Migration in Contemporary Media and Narrative. The editors will be present.

Venue: UCL, Gower Street, WC1E 6BT London  |  South Wing G12 Council Room

The product of a two-year interdisciplinary research project into representations of migration to Italy, this volume brings together scholarly contributions from the fields of migration studies, linguistics, media, literature and film studies as well as essays by practitioners and activists. It provides both a multi-faceted snapshot of how diverse representations of immigration capture experiences and affect decision-making dynamics and an in-depth study of how media, literature and cinema contribute to the public perception of migrants within the destination culture.

“Screening Strangers: Migration and Diaspora in Contemporary European
Cinema”

Chair: Prof. David Forgacs

Wednesday, 2 February 2011
5.00 - 7.00pm
Italian Seminar Room, Foster Court 351

Yosefa Loshitzky challenges the utopian notion of a post-national "New
Europe" by focusing on the waves of migrants and refugees that some view
as a potential threat to European identity, a concern heightened by the
rhetoric of the war on terror, the London Underground bombings, and the
riots in Paris's banlieues. Opening a cinematic window onto this struggle,
Loshitzky determines patterns in the representation and negotiation of
European identity in several European films from the late 20th and early
21st centuries, including Bernardo Bertolucci's Besieged, Stephen Frears’s
Dirty Pretty Things, Mathieu Kassovitz's La Haine, and Michael
Winterbottom's In This World, Code 46, and The Road to Guantanamo.

Leggere Il Mondo e il testo_Bologna 14-15 October 2010

In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Migrant Literature" in Italy, a two days event has been organized in Bologna by Prof. Pezzarossa and few more people from different backgrounds and places (Graziella Parati, Roberto De Robertis, Marco Purura, Serge Vanvolsem, Lucia Quaquarelli, and myself).
I'm looking forward to meeting all these very interesting scholars and many writers and share with them these two intense days of discussions and debates.
I'll have the honour to introduce and converse with the exciting and brilliant writer Amara Lakhous, with whom we will discuss his last novel "Divorzio all'Islamica a Viale Marconi".

You can find all the information about Programme, venue, etc., here

See you in Bologna!
